After a septic tank was removed from the centre of this garden it was possible to extend an existing tiny, dark paved area to make a much larger usable space for relaxing in and enjoying the evening sun.

The client also wanted a solution to the rest of the garden, to include a covered dining area with surrounding planted borders. A wonderful oak pergola was installed over a dining area which is accessed via path through the planting using self-binding gravel. This garden was open to the south-westerlies and also to a nearby lane, so a section of trellising was designed in to help give shelter but also to create a more intimate space and divide the garden into more interesting 'rooms'.  Pleached trees were planted along the existing wall to give further privacy and shelter.

A very 'painterly' planting scheme was introduced, based on purples, blues and acid greens intertwined within wonderful textural grasses, pops of Alliums and balls of evergreens.  The more shady areas were filled with Hellebores, Ferns, Hostas and Astrantia.  All coming together to create a very pretty, harmonious space for my clients to enjoy and entertain friends.
